Edge of My Breath, 2023

Edge of My Breath, 2023,

Photograph, 6 C-Print + Dibond, 45 x 60 cm

I photographed the red cars entering or exiting the frame during my three hour long bus trip as I was passing the soothing green road. The game I invented turned into a kind of self-hypnotizing mantra or counting sheep. On the road the bodily limits remove mental limits. The things that one would not realize begin to attract attention and a small moment begins to gain significance.

Isn’t it interesting that we do not look at the shining sun the whole day, whereas, the speed of the setting sun often amazes us? Similarly, when a figure in a photograph is caught in any edge of the frame, it’s clear how small this moment is. We often realize the value of things when we loose them or when they approach to an ending. Time seems endless when the red car is centered, however, time seems to fly faster as figures move towards the edge of the frame; this being an analogy to our approach to finite life.
